How to Find the Right BMW Part Number

Finding the right BMW part number is the difference between a clean repair and an expensive return. BMW fitment can change by production month, option code, engine, transmission, LCI update and market. Do not rely on photos alone.

1. Start with the VIN

Your VIN is the best starting point because it identifies the exact vehicle build. Send it when requesting any used OEM BMW part, especially modules, lights, interior trim, drivetrain and cooling components.

2. Check the number on the old part

Many BMW parts have a stamped, printed or stickered OEM number. Photograph the full label, not just one corner. If the part has multiple numbers, send all of them.

3. Compare shape, plugs and mounting points

Even with a part number, compare connectors, brackets, tabs, bolt holes and sensor positions. Small differences can stop a part fitting or working correctly.

4. Watch for LCI, engine and option changes

BMW updates parts across production runs. Pre-LCI and LCI cars can use different lights, trims, modules and brackets. M cars and M Sport packages can also change fitment.

5. Ask before buying used BMW parts

If you are not certain, send MPerformance.parts your VIN, part number and photos. We would rather check fitment before purchase than see you stuck with the wrong part.

FAQs

Can I find the correct BMW part from the model name only?

Sometimes, but it is risky. Model name alone rarely confirms production date, options or exact component revision.

Is a superseded BMW part number OK?

Sometimes yes. BMW numbers can supersede, but compatibility should be checked before ordering.

What should I send when requesting help?

Send VIN, old part number, photos of the part and vehicle, plus delivery postcode. Message WhatsApp +61 402 476 061 or use the parts request page.
